Tulsa Oklahoma (April 15, 2014) – With the first event in the books for the 2014 season, the Oil Capital Racing Series sprint cars will now look to tame the super quick Outlaw Motorsports Park this Saturday night in Oktaha Oklahoma. The upcoming visit will be the first of two currently booked programs at OMP. Last season saw OCRS swing through OMP twice as well with teammates Danny Smith and Kyle Clark hogging the winning hardware for their racing operation.
Smith is on the mark early as he finished a close second to Whit Gastineau in last weeks season opener at the new Longdale Speedway while Clark grabbed a top ten finish with a seventh place run. 2013 OCRS champion Harli White, along with crowd favorite Danny Jennings and talented shoe, Andrew Deal, completed a quality laden field of top five finishers.
Gastineau will be at OMP in an attempt to start the OCRS season with back to back wins and if he is successful, he will become the third driver in three consecutive years to accomplish such a start. Jamie Passmore (2012) and Harli White (2013) were recent drivers who started out an OCRS season with dual wins.
As with past OMP performances by the OCRS sprint car warriors, this Saturday night looks to be perfectly set for another round of tense, high drama racing action. Second year promoters Carey and Nicole Menasco have their successful freshman year behind them and all signals point to great things for a sophomore stint. The Menasco’s have revived a grand speedway that sat practically idle in 2012 and the racing industry is far better off because of their dedicated commitment.
Brodix/PM PRO rookie of the year challengers Frank Taft, Blake Edwards, Dillon Ake and Cameron Hagin will attempt to be the first rookie to visit victory lane this season just as four such rookies did in 2013 OCRS action. Those drivers were: Kade Morton, Chance Morton, Alex DeCamp and Mickey Walker. Neither of the four made the A Feature last week as one issue or another befell the foursome. Look for that to change very quickly.
Last weeks event saw Danny Smith earn the first AmeriFlex Hose and Accessories ‘Hard Charger’ award which produces a $100 bill to be stuffed into their pockets. If the last two seasons are to be used as a gauge as to how many different drivers will earn AmeriFlex cash in 2014, then there will likely be several recipients as there were 16 such chargers in both 2012 & 2013, which leads to multiple drivers asking after each feature race: “Do I get the Benny?”
Annually, OCRS selects an individual as the “Sportsmanship of the Year” recipient at the season ending awards banquet. After one race, we have a leading candidate. Dan Schnackenberg suffered extensive chassis damage to his sprinter when he picked a fight with Longdale’s concrete wall and lost. 2013 Brodix/PM PRO rookie of the year recipient Kade Morton has offered to give Schnackenberg his former chassis so that Schnackenberg can get back to OCRS action quickly. Quite a grand gesture from the 19-year-old lad.
