Inside Line Promotions – WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (April 14, 2014) – If it wasn’t for a mechanical issue each night last weekend, Cole Wood would have had a great opportunity to record two more top fives.

Instead, a rear end problem hampered his team during the Midwest Open Wheel Association races at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., on Friday and at 34 Raceway on Saturday.

Wood started the weekend on Friday by charging from ninth to a fifth-place result during his heat race at Jacksonville Speedway.

“They reworked the track and nobody would go to the top,” he said. “On the first start we went from ninth to third and they called that one back. I only got two or three cars on the second start.”

Wood’s heat race results started him on the outside of the fifth row for the main event on the small track.

“In the feature we went from 10th to eighth and then the race car fell out of gear,” he said. “We’re not sure why. The car felt really good. We were working the cushion nicely.”

Wood ended with a 14th-place result.

However, a similar issue reappeared during his heat race on Saturday at 34 Raceway.

“We were running the top and it once again jumped out of gear with two laps to go,” he said.

Wood was unable to finish his heat race and was relegated to a B Main. He claimed the consolation race to transfer to the feature, which he started on the outside of the ninth row.

“Our car was really good up top,” he said. “There were a lot of guys who were trying to slow down and run the bottom. Pretty much the whole race I was picking them off one by one. If we got to start up front I think we could have ended up with a top five.”

Wood charged from 18th to a 10th-place finish, which was tied for the most cars passed in the main event.

He is slated to race at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., this Friday with the MOWA series before traveling to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for Saturday’s season opener.

“We’re going to run there 15 or 16 times this year,” he said. “The first couple of races we’ll try some things, find out what the car likes and what I like. I hope that will be one of our strong points this season.”
