PETERSEN MEDIA- Opting to try his hand at the California Triple Crown in 2014, Tommy Tarlton kicked the King of the West leg of it off in style as the Easton, CA driver dominated the 30-lap feature event.
With 31 cars on hand for the highly competitive series opener, Tarlton got off to a slower start as he timed in 14th fastest, but he did what he had to do, and won his heat race, putting the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son/Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino entry in the night’s Dash.
Pulling the three-pill for the Dash, Tarlton lined up in the second row, behind Kyle Hirst, and when the race went green, Tarlton followed Hirst as he jumped into the second spot, where he would finish, putting his Pabco Gypsum/Bandy and Associates/All Star Performance entry on the front row for the feature event.
Though the feature got off to a very slow start, Tarlton got the initial jump, and continued to get the jump on the restarts, as the first six-laps were plagued with cautions.
The first long green flag run of the night saw Tarlton get out to a lead, but he had Willie Croft hot on his tail, making for a very exciting battle as the leaders got traffic.
A lap 18 red saw another red on the restart, and when action finally resumed, Tarlton flexed his muscle over the final 12-laps, as he cruised to the very popular victory with MavTV cameras rolling, making it an even bigger win.
“We have set some big goals for ourselves this year, and this is a great way to start it,” Tarlton said. “I can’t thank Paul Baines, my dad, and all of our sponsors enough for letting me get out and do this, and giving me great equipment. It feels awesome to win, and pretty cool to do it for a race that will be on National TV in a few weeks.
Tarlton Racing would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, Corporate America Investments, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2014 season.
ON TAP: Tarlton will return to action on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA as he will kick off the Taco Bravo Sprints portion of the Triple Crown before hitting the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night with the KWS.
