Dover Drives to Pair of Top 10s in Season-Opening Weekend at I-80 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (April 8, 2014) – Jack Dover started his season with a solid performance during the ASCS Midwest Region doubleheader at I-80 Speedway last weekend.

Dover earned the Hard Charger Award after finishing fifth during the main event on Saturday before he ended the weekend with a seventh-place result on a track that took rubber both nights.

“I’m not upset, but I’m not happy,” he said. “It’s a good building point right now. I would have liked to have some wins, but the more I thought about it we were still thrashing on it the night before the first race. To put it together at the last minute and to get a pair of top 10s is good.”

He opened the weekend on Saturday by advancing from fifth to fourth-place in his heat race on the narrow track, which left him one spot out of locking into the feature and placed him on the pole of the B Main.

Dover then led the distance to claim the consolation race and earn a transfer to the main event.

“The track started taking rubber in one of the corners in the B Main,” he said. “I knew it was going to get more from the other classes so I left my car the same. It worked perfect in the A Main.”

Dover rallied from 15th to score a fifth-place result, which earned him the award for passing the most cars.

“Coming from the B Main and finishing fifth, that’s always a good night,” he said. “I was really happy coming that far from the back of the field to fifth on that kind of track. When it starts taking rubber, it’s hard to pass people.”

Track conditions improved for the heat races on Sunday, when Dover maneuvered from eighth to a third-place result. That earned him enough points to advance into the feature redraw.

“The track conditions were great in the heat races,” he said. “I just picked them off one by one. There was a top and a bottom groove. Pretty much where you wanted to run it would hold you.”

Dover pulled the highest number – eight – in the redraw to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“It was one lane around the top and there wasn’t much passing,” he said. “I’m not really down on myself because I know the track conditions were bad and I didn’t miss the setup that bad.”

Dover maintained a top-10 position for the entire race before finishing seventh.

He is slated to take this weekend off before a trio of events the following week.

Dover will compete on April 16 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and on April 18 at Independence Motor Speedway in Independence, Iowa, with the Sprint Invaders. He will wrap up the week on April 19 at Raceway Park in Jefferson, S.D., with the Nebraska 360 Sprints.
