Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 24, 2014) – After spending dozens of laps during multiple races and test sessions the past couple of years at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, Seth Bergman took a calculated gamble last Friday.
After winning his heat race to lock into the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature at the half-mile track, Bergman fought an ill-handling car throughout the 25-lap main event.
“We were trying some things during testing that I was really excited to try with the race car,” he said. “I thought the track was going to dry off more than it did. I started the race too tight and the track got better and better.”
Bergman, who recorded enough heat race points to earn one of the eight bids into the feature redraw, pulled the No. 3 to start on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“There was a lot of opportunity for us starting up front like that,” he said. “We were just too tight with the race car.”
Bergman maintained third place for most of the race. As the track became faster, his car continued to tighten up and Bergman lost several positions in the closing laps. He ended with a seventh-place result, which marked his third top 10 of the season.
“I was just getting worse and worse as the race went on,” he said. “It got so tight on me I couldn’t roll the bottom of the race track. I took a gamble. We’ll learn from it and try not to do the same thing.”
Saturday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway was postponed a week because of the threat of weather. Bergman, who is fifth in the championship standings, will return to the track this Saturday.
