The home track for the USAC/CRA sprint cars kicks off iti's season opener last night. By the car count and the fans in the stands, it was apparent that everyone sure didn't want to wait any longer to smell the methanal or to hear the rumble of the engines.
31 cars signed in for competition, divding the field into 3 groups, and of coarse with the pill draw that was selected the 92 would be towards the end of the rotation. Crew and driver were estastic when after a 1st lap that was " a tad scary" Jake backed it up with a 16.572 -- 5th quick!!!!
On the program for the evening were also Senior Sprints, Young Gun Sprints and California ightening Sprint. Added all those classes would make for a long evening, but it also gives the crews a little extra time to make changes before their next event.
5th quick starts the 92 in the 1st Heat race. Facing off with Jake for the 4 transfer spots was Damion, Cody Wiliams, Kruseman,VanderWeerd, Roa, Denoome, & Ellerston. And Go he did --- 4th and the transfer to The Main.
4 heat races and a semi produced a star studded Main Event. With Jake and Ronnie Gardner starting on the front row. Remember gang, this was Jake's first race at Perris in the Moosemobile, so starting in the front row was such a morale booster! Unfortunately early on, Jake was pinched off by another car causing him to get out of the throttle and dropping a few positions…. the goal for this 1st trip out was to finish in the top 10 and Jake bettered that by coming home in 7th!!! 2 races and 2 top 10's! We'll take it. Going to be a fun season watching Jake grow and grow!
None of this would be possible with out the amazing Moose Crew: Dave, Jim, Jimmy, Chris, Don, David, Tom(Gunk)….
And of coarse a HUGE thank you to the companies and people that support Moose Racing: Huntington Beach Glass, Victory Chassis, Phil & Eileen King, CIrcle Track, Advanced Racing Shocks, Ram Bull Racing, Saddleback Gun Center, Lucas Oil, Freeway Auto Supply, Specialized Powder Coating, Keizer Wheels, Goodwine Glass, Rod End Supply.
