Inside Line Promotions – PENNGROVE, Calif. (March 4, 2014) – Chase Johnson has a myriad of opportunities to keep him busy during the 2014 season.
First up, Johnson will drive for Harley Van Dyke at approximately 18 races, including the season-opening Silver Cup this Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.
“It’s a huge opportunity,” Johnson said. “I can’t thank Harley enough for giving me the opportunity to run his car. It’s the next step in my racing career. Harley has a really fast car and he knows his stuff, so I’m looking forward to working with him and hopefully pulling out some wins.”
The duo will compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on May 16-17 at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., and Johnson will contend for the ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek title in late June and early July. The team also plans on heading to Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., for the Summer Nationals on July 25-26 and will conclude the season at the prestigious Trophy Cup Oct. 16-18 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.
“We have a lot of big races across the West Coast on the schedule,” Johnson said.
Johnson will also drive his family sprint car approximately 10-to-12 times throughout the season, including at a half-dozen Civil War Sprint Car Series events.
“We will also bounce around to a lot of local races at different tracks,” he said.
Shawn and Cindy Thomas have provided Johnson with a pair of 410ci opportunities at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif. Johnson, who claimed the 360 winged sprint car track championship at Petaluma Speedway in 2012, will make his winged 410 debut with the King of the West Sprint Car Series on May 10.
“That should be my first 410 start ever,” he said. “I don’t want to go in having any expectations. I know the track and what it is going to do. It’s going to be a different ball game running the 410. I’m looking forward to it and the car I’m going to be driving is definitely a winning-caliber car.”
Johnson will also drive for the team at Petaluma Speedway on June 28 for a nonwing USAC/CRA event.
Additionally, Johnson will be part of a five-person team owned by Jay St. Claire racing a Volkswagon Jetta at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., on March 22-23 for a 24 hours of LeMons event.
“It’s going to be something different,” Johnson said. “I’ve ran pavement karts for a couple of guys, but it will be my first pavement experience with a full-sized car.”
Johnson is currently working on a couple of other racing opportunities as well. To contact him about a potential ride, e-mail ChaseJohnsonRacing@yahoo.com.
“I can’t thank everyone enough for these opportunities,” Johnson said. “It is humbling to be associated with so many great teams and organizations.”
