Trey Marcham Contends for Win, Settles for Top Five Run

Battling with the leaders throughout the race and even taking the lead at times, Oklahoma’s Trey Marcham was looking to duplicate his Midget triumph earlier this year in the McQueen Racing #37 Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen. After battling for the lead, Marcham claimed a solid fourth place run in the 30-lap USAC-Western States Midget feature at the 1/3-mile Bakersfield Speedway on Saturday, September 21.

Starting fourth on the grid that included his car owner/teammate Shannon McQueen starting in fifth, Marcham jumped into a multiple-car battle for the lead, passing for the lead twice, but both passes were called back to the unfurling of yellow flags.

Pushing the McQueen entry as hard as he could, Marcham jumped the cushion late in the feature, falling back to finish a strong fourth, another Top five run, his third such in limited Midget starts.

Improving in each start, Trey was third fastest qualifying, his best qualifying run in the Midget to date – and just two tenths off of fast time and only six hundredths behind his veteran teammate McQueen. Marcham started fourth in his Heat race, and claimed third.

Marcham will return to the cockpit of the 350+HP, 900-pound Midget this Saturday, September 28 in USAC-Western States competition in USAC-Western States competition at the 1/5-mile Ventura Raceway.

Though competing only a limited USAC-Western States Midget schedule, Marcham is just a few tallies behind the current Rookie-of-the-year leader, and has cracked the Top 10 in the USAC-WS Dirt Midget point standings.
