Inside Line Promotions – AUBURN, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2014) – A new season will bring several changes for Cole Wood and his sprint car program.
The team will share a shop with Brian Brown Racing in Missouri and won’t be chasing points in any series. Instead, Wood will pick marquee events in the 410ci and 360ci ranks as well as some midget races to attend.
“Everybody at Cole Wood Racing is really thankful to Brian Brown for allowing the team to use his shop,” Wood said. “Missouri is a lot more central to the racing we want to do. It’s a lot easier on everything to be that much closer and not based out of California.”
It also doesn’t hurt that Wood can learn daily from Brown, who has finished second in the famed Knoxville Nationals the past two seasons.
“I’m excited that I’ll get the opportunity to take in some of the knowledge that Brian has,” Wood said. “He helped me a lot last season and I’m excited to see if it will help my performance this year.”
The team will load up everything from its shop in California and will start the season at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz., Feb. 28 and March 1 before venturing to Missouri.
“As of right now we’re going to head out on the 24th and we plan on bringing our whole shop with us,” he said. “I’ve got everything we own in our trailer.”
Wood’s last winged sprint car event was at Cocopah Speedway last November, when he wrapped up the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour schedule by earning the Rookie of the Year Award.
“I’m really excited about it,” he said. “Cocopah is kind of an up-and-down track for us. We either have a good run or are having a good run and get worn out. I like that track a lot. It always provides two lanes.”
