Inside Line Promotions – FORNEY, Texas (Nov. 18, 2013) – Another successful season has closed for Travis Rilat, who captured five feature victories in limited action.
All of Rilat’s wins came as the pilot for Richard Saumure’s sprint car, which Rilat drove three-quarters of his races in this season. The duo is slated to continue a partnership next season as well.
“This was the second year I drove for Richard and I am looking forward to a similar opportunity next season,” Rilat said. “Richard and the crew do a great job of giving me a winning car. I was able to capitalize on it a handful of times this season.”
Rilat garnered a victory at four different tracks with three series, including his 26th career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour triumph on July 12 at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.
“The ASCS National Tour is the best 360 competition you can race against,” he said. “It is always a challenge to take on those guys, especially when we only get a dozen races with them each season. Everything clicked for the team at Grays Harbor and it was a big win.”
The victory also marked his third straight week with a win as Rilat was victorious during the ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek at Grays Harbor Raceway on June 28 and at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on July 3.
Rilat continued his hot streak at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on July 19 by picking up a win for the fourth consecutive week. He earned his final victory of the season on Sept. 28 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
“It was great to win a race in my home state as well as in Washington, Oregon and Edmonton,” Rilat said. “Regardless of where we were in the country or who we raced against, we were in contention at just about every race this season. It’s a good feeling to show up knowing that you have a chance to win.
“It’s also great to have the support that we had. Not only with Richard and his team, but also with my program. I want to thank everyone who has partnered with both teams and I look forward to continuing our winning ways next season.”

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race and Triple X Race Co. was next door,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.
“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
