Inside Line Promotions – ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 15, 2013) – Brent Marks returned to Lincoln Speedway last Saturday for only the second time since the Knoxville Nationals in August.
“It was the first time we were back there in a while,” he said. “I kinda had to knock a little bit of rust off. On our time trial run we were a little bit on the tighter side. It would have been nice to get a top two, but we were happy with fourth.”
Marks opened the Kenny Weld Memorial by qualifying fourth quickest. After lining up fourth in his heat race, Marks finished third to earn a spot in the redraw. He then started the main event on the inside of the second row.
“I thought we had a really good shot at winning that race starting third,” he said. “On the start of the race the polesitter got a little messed up there. We got bundled up in the second row and I fell back to the sixth position by the starting line. I lost all of those positions on the start of the race and I really couldn’t make it back up.”
Marks rallied to pick up a pair of positions before settling for a fourth-place finish, which was his 22nd top-five result of the season.
“I got back up to fourth, but couldn’t make it any further,” he said. “A lot had to do with track position. Everybody was really good. It was a good run, but definitely not what we wanted.”
Marks was scheduled to start the weekend on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. However, the event was cancelled because of a massive storm.
“It was nice to have Friday off, but at the same time it’s the end of the year so I don’t want it to rain out either,” he said. “(Lincoln Speedway) was a lot better than I thought it’d be. They watched the weather and had (the track) shielded pretty tight. The track stayed really dirty. It didn’t really clean off like it usually does. There was a top and a bottom lane the whole time. It was actually really good.”
Marks is slated to compete at Williams Grove Speedway this Friday and at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday.
“I’d really love to get two or three more wins before the year is up,” he said. “I think we’re capable of doing it and we deserve it. Saturday was an example of that because I felt like we could have had a car to win. We just lost all that track position on the start. Luck just wasn’t on our side. We’re so close to being unstoppable. It’s just a matter of putting it all together.”
