Inside Line Promotions - QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (Oct. 9, 2013) - A late decision to tackle Arizona Speedway on Saturday paid off for Logan Forler.
Forler charged from sixth place to his third ASCS Southwest Region victory in six events this season and his eighth overall win of the season.
He opened the night by leading all eight laps of his heat race, which earned him enough points to advance to the feature redraw.
"It was right around the top," he said of his heat race. "The car was better in the heat race than it was in the main."
Forler then pulled the No. 6 in the random draw - which determined the first four rows of the main event - to start on the outside of the third row for the 25-lap feature.
Forler powered to third place on the opening lap and spent the next half-dozen circuits looking for rubber on the ultra-slick track.
"I kinda knew it was going to lay rubber so I was back there searching around, keeping pace with those guys," he said. "I saw a dull black spot of rubber in (turn) one and they just happened to stay out of my line and I drove right by them."
Forler charged from third to first place in turns one and two approximately a third of the way through the main event.
"I passed the second and first-place car in the same corner," he said. "I found the rubber getting into (turn) one and shot off of (turn) two and drove by both of them. They were in lapped traffic. One went high and one went low and I went right through the middle."
Forler cruised to his second victory of the season at Arizona Speedway.
"I think we lapped up to fourth," he said. "It was so slick you knew it was going to take rubber. I didn't put new tires on so I was conserving my tires the last 10 laps or so."
Forler is scheduled to take this weekend off before returning with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Oct. 18-19 at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 40th annual Winter Nationals.
