Hull has commanding point lead, looking for third straight series title
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 9, 2013) - The 2013 racing season will come to a close for the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) this weekend when National Speed Sport News presents a pair of big events, Friday and Saturday.
Lincoln Speedway, Lincoln, Ill., hosts the series for a $2,000 to win show Friday night. This will be the first appearance for the series at the track this season. Also on the card are Big 10 Late Models, UMP Modifieds and Lightning Sprints/Midget Lites. The fast 1/4 mile should have a packed pit area with some of the best in the business in the best classes the Midwest has to offer.
Grandstand admission is $20, children 12 and under are free.
The Shaheen's Super Weekend hits full stride Saturday, when the MOWA series makes the trip to Jacksonville Speedway, Jacksonville, Ill., for a $4,000 to win season finale that honors the former owner of "Little Springfield", Joe Shaheen. Also on the card, Saturday night, are Neal Tire Sprints, UMP Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks and 600 micros.
While the MOWA series headlines the night's events with its season championship, there is an all day party/event scheduled for Jacksonville Speedway, Saturday. The Jacksonville Speedway Hall of Fame will have vintage cars on display, as well as many items of racing memorabilia, such as photos, trophies and more.
Also, the 4-cylinder Mafia 100, will begin at 2:30 p.m. 4-Cylinder cars will time trial, then start straight up by time and run a 100 lap endure! Should a be a lot of fun, and a good break in the race day prep for all involved to sit back and watch some door banging enduro action.
To top the day off, tailgating is more than accepted, it is suggested, and life music will also be on site throughout the day.
On Saturday, grandstand admission is $20, while children 12 and under are free.
For the MOWA series, Saturday night's racing action will crown a 2013 series champion. Currently, Jerrod Hull holds the point lead with 1485, which is a 114 point lead over A.J. Bruns who has 1371 points. Hull can put the championship battle away on Friday night with a good run at Lincoln Speedway, but Bruns is a past winner at the track.
Paul Nienhiser is 89 points behind Bruns in third place, with 1282 points, while Jimmy Hurley is currently fourth in points.
The tightest battle in the top five is for fifth. Robbie Standridge holds down the fifth spot with 1049 points, while Ben Wagoner is just 10 points back with 1039 points.
Cory Bruns, Chris Urish, Jeremy Standridge and Logan Faucon round out the top 10.
