Inside Line Promotions - WHEATLAND, Mo. (Oct. 2, 2013) - After another solid weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, Blake Hahn is excited to announce his plans for this Saturday.
Hahn is slated to compete in his first-ever 410ci race for legendary car owner Rick Ferkel at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, with the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association.
"I'm excited, but a little nervous," Hahn said. "I don't know what to expect. My grandpa said it's all the same, but the front end is going to be lighter on it."
Hahn is coming off another top-10 finish with the premier 360ci sprint car series last weekend at the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway.
He started the weekend on Friday by advancing from fifth to fourth place in his heat race. That lined him up third in a B Main, which transferred the top-three finishers to the back of the feature. Hahn maintained a transfer position throughout the 12-lap consolation and he placed second to start the main event 19th.
"In the A Main it was really, really good," he said. "The track was awesome. It had a lot of moisture on the top. You could slide quite a bit. We had our car rolling around the top. Everybody was trying to work the bottom. Since we started in the back I was determined to run the top. We were racing with Jeff Swindell for quite a bit."
Hahn worked his way toward the top 10 and secured a 10th-place finish with several late-race moves.
"I started driving it harder getting in (to the corners) toward the end of the race and that's where I was gaining on people," he said. "If we had more laps we would have been farther up."
The event finale was postponed from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon because of rain.
Hahn advanced from sixth to fourth place in his heat race and was looking for another position when his car shut off during the final lap.
"I wasn't sure what happened," he said. "I thought it came out of gear. I looked down and the switch was all cockeyed."
A zeus came loose and knocked the ignition box around, which in turn hit the switch to kill the engine. Unsure exactly what had happened at the time, Hahn went to the pits with a ninth-place finish.
That started him 15th in a B Main, which only transferred the top three.
"The track was really, really dry because it was a day race," he said. "They tilled the top right before the B Mains and they tilled the bottom and watered it. Basically I had to go wherever I could. It was only 12 laps. I think more laps we could have got up there."
Hahn rallied to place seventh in the consolation race, which was only four spots out of a transfer.
