Baughman Set to Park Sprint Car After Dust Up at Texas Motor Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 25, 2013) – Josh Baughman has made a decision to park his sprint car after a wild night last Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway.

Baughman and Johnny Herrera collided on the opening lap of their Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race at the Port-a-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship. The contact damaged the steering on Baughman’s car and he held on to finish eighth.

After the heat race the drivers pulled into the infield and Baughman said he went to nudge Herrera’s car from behind only to have both cars lock together when Baughman said Herrera slammed on the brakes.

“When I did it he completely locked the car up,” Baughman said. “When it did it killed the car and it escalated from there. My intention wasn’t to stop and fight Johnny Herrera. He came over and shoved me.”

The duo had a short-term fight in the infield and Baughman was disqualified from the event, forcing him to leave the facility.

“Should I have been the only one penalized? I don’t think so,” he said. “If the pages were turned and I hopped out of my car and ran over to him I would have been penalized. I don’t take anything away from Johnny. I’ve watched him do the same thing earlier in the year and nothing happened to him.

“I don’t go to the races to fight. With nothing being done on the series’ end it’s just going to continue. I’m parking my stuff for the rest of this year.”

Baughman said he might compete in a few non-ASCS sprint car races in the final months of this season and he plans on driving one of Andrew Felker’s midgets at the Chili Bowl Nationals next January.

“Before Saturday night happened I was gearing up to run the whole national tour next year,” Baughman said. “I’m not going to do anything with the way it is now. I race to have fun.”
