Hagar Earns Fourth-Place Finish to Open USCS Summer Nationals IV

Inside Line Promotions – SENOIA, Ga. (Sept. 23, 2013) – Had the inversion been a little better Derek Hagar had a chance to sweep the opening night of the USCS Summer Nationals IV on Friday at Senoia Raceway.

After winning the heat race and dash from his front row outside starting position, Hagar had earned the most points. However, he drew the highest number – six – in the feature inversion, which started him on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“We started out good,” he said. “I had a good, fast car. The top side on the starts was pretty much the place to be. It was a red, clay dirt track. It was all about momentum.

“I drew a six, which put us behind the eight ball. I knew it was going to be tough to come back through the field. The way the race track is it’s all about momentum. Once you get going everybody is pretty much strung out.”

Hagar picked up a pair of positions early and competed for a spot on the podium before settling for a fourth-place finish.

“I got a couple on the start and that was it,” he said. “I could catch the people in front of me, but it was hard to pass. Once you caught someone there really wasn’t anything you could do with them.”

It marked his 26th top-five result of the season.

Saturday’s USCS Summer Nationals IV finale was rained out to cap the weekend.

Hagar is planning on double duty this weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial. He will compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour as well as in the nonwing class both nights.
