KNOXVILLE, Iowa (September 17, 2013) – Three international race tracks have set the dates for qualifying races for the 2014 SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge.
Western Springs Speedway in Auckland, New Zealand, Robertson Holden International Speedway in Palmerston North, New Zealand and Australia’s Premier Speedway, which is located in Warrnambool, Victoria, have confirmed the dates of their qualifying events for the August 8 SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge.
The first international qualifier will be the World Sprintcar Classic November 23 at Western Springs Speedway. Several Americans are expected to be in the field.
Robertson Holden International Speedway will host the second qualifier, the International Sprintcars event, December 14 with multiple Americans expected to compete.
The final international qualifier is the 42nd annual Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic January 24-26 at Premier Speedway. The race will pay $30,000 to the winner and the event includes twin $10,000-to-win Australia/America Challenge Cup preliminary night mains, presented by Oval Express. A large contingent of Americans is expected to converge on this popular seaside city for Australia’s version of the Knoxville Nationals.
“This is the earliest that we’ve ever been able to announce the dates of our international qualifying events, so we really appreciate the efforts of Greg Mosen at Western Springs, Bruce Robertson at Palmerston North and David Mills at Warrnambool,” said Knoxville Raceway General Manager Brian Stickel. “Obviously the earlier that we can let American drivers know the dates and venues for our ‘Down Under’ qualifiers, the greater the chances are of them finding rides and qualifying for our SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge race next August. In 2013, we set a record with 25 drivers competing in our World Challenge, including drivers from Australia, Canada and the United States.”
