Bruce Jr. Prepares for Port-a-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship

Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (Sept. 16, 2013) – As much as Tony Bruce Jr. enjoyed his weekend off, he is looking forward to returning to the track this Saturday for the Port-a-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship.

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event is held at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. Bruce Jr. charged from seventh to a third-place finish in his heat race and then ended seventh in the main event last year at the inaugural race.

“We had a pretty good start to the A Main,” he said. “For some reason we fell off toward the end. I jumped the cushion a couple of times in (turns) three and four and lost a few spots. It got where it was right around the top and I made a few mistakes and that cost us.

“I’m really looking forward to going back there. I think we can improve on what we did last year. I don’t think we had a seventh-place car; I was a seventh-place driver.”

Bruce Jr. has recorded a top five in five of his last six races this season in the state of Texas.

“We expect to run up front,” he said. “Whenever you go to these premier tracks and nice facilities you want to have a good showing. A lot of our sponsors are going to be there this weekend. When the bright lights are shining and everyone is there to watch you, you need to perform.”
