HANFORD, TULARE NEXT FOR WEST COAST SPRINTS; POINT LEADER FARIA TAKES BAKERSFIELD

Danny Faria Jr. of Tipton, Calif. can breathe a little easier this weekend as the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series takes a hiatus until September 20-21 when it visits Hanford and Tulare, Calif. for back-to-back races.

Faria has spurted to a 44-point lead over Bud Kaeding in the latest standings, partly as a result of last Saturday night’s 30-lap victory at Bakersfield, Calif.

Faria led all 30 laps at Bakersfield in his Johnson Calf Pens/DeBoer & Sons Trucking Spike/Downing, beating Kaeding, fast qualifier Richard Vander Weerd, Jace Vander Weerd and Mike Spencer to the checkered flag.

In four races at each upcoming track, Faria was the last of four winners at Hanford. The others were Ryan Bernal, Richard Vander Weerd and Troy Rutherford. At Tulare, Bernal has won three times and Vander Weerd once.

2013 USAC WEST COAST SPRINT CAR STANDINGS: 1-Danny Faria Jr.-750, 2-Bud Kaeding-706, 3-Richard Vander Weerd-695, 4-Ryan Bernal-661, 5-Markus Niemela-559, 6-Rusty Carlile-531, 7-Jace Vander Weerd-495, 8-Austin Liggett-404, 9-Ricky Kirkbride-377, 10-Landon Hurst-363.
