Inside Line Promotions - LUBBOCK, Texas (Sept. 2, 2013) - Blake Hahn continued his recent success and nearly nabbed a pair of top fives in ASCS Lone Star Region action last weekend in Texas.
Hahn scored a fifth-place finish on Saturday at Abilene Speedway in Abilene before he ran out of fuel with two laps remaining while running fourth on Sunday at Lubbock Speedway.
"The car was good both nights," he said. "I made a mistake the first night and the second night there was nothing we could really do about it."
On Saturday, Hahn claimed his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That earned him enough points to advance to the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 2 to start on the outside of the front row for the feature.
"The track had quite a bit of moisture going out for the feature," he said. "We had three double-file restarts. By the time we got going it was pretty dry. I was running third and Kolt Walker drove under in turn three and pushed me over the cushion. Then, going into turn one I got a little loose getting in and went over and about three or four cars got by me. Once it got dry it was one lane; a pretty boring race."
Hahn battled back to secure his 10th top five of the season.
He hauled to Lubbock Speedway for Sunday's event, which was reportedly the first 360ci race at the track in at least more than a decade.
"I think that was the first time they've run 360s there," he said. "It was fun. It was high banked, fast, had plenty of moisture. It was around the top in the heat races."
Hahn placed fifth in his heat race and started the main event on the inside of the seventh row.
"The track was pretty good for the A Feature," he said. "It was slick and racy. We slowly picked off cars.
"We had so many yellows. Every caution I picked off one or two and a couple of people fell out."
Hahn was up to fourth place when a caution came out with two laps remaining.
"We paced around for like 12 laps trying to get people to get lined up," he said. "I went on it going to take off and it about died. I pulled down low and everybody passed me. They threw the caution and I just went back to the pits."
Hahn ended with a 21st-place finish.
He is scheduled to race on Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
