Marks Earns Three Top-Seven Finishes to Continue Consistency

Inside Line Promotions – NEWBERRYTOWN, Pa. (Aug. 27, 2013) – Consistency has been a strength for Brent Marks this season.

Marks scored a trio of top-10 finishes last weekend to increase his total to 45 top 10s.

“I’m a big believer in consistency,” he said. “I believe if you run consistent the wins will come. We had a consistent race car and were able to pass cars. I was happy with the weekend. It was a nice, consistent weekend.”

He opened the tripleheader weekend on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., by placing fourth in his heat race. He then lined up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“I had a really good race car in the feature,” he said. “I was working my way up through there and got tangled with a car in turn four. I dropped all the way back to 11th or 12th. The track was real fast and everybody was pretty good. We were able to get back to seventh by the end of the race, but I felt like we had a top-four car for sure. We had a better car than what the results showed.”

Marks rebounded from the incident to finish seventh.

He tackled Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., on Saturday, when he picked up a heat race win. Marks started on the inside of the sixth row for the feature and dropped a couple of positions before the track started to suit his setup.

“I wasn’t too thrilled with it in the beginning of the feature,” he said. “It started off too loose and the track actually tightened up a bit. When the track got tighter my car got tighter. To start as bad as we did and come on at the end to pass all of those cars and get to fifth was nice. We made a lot of ground the last half of the race.”

Marks rallied to place fifth, which was his 20th top five of the season.

The weekend ended on Sunday at Susquehanna Speedway Park.

“Sunday was a day of hell,” he said. “We had issues with the brakes after warm-ups. We were trying to resolve that and drew a really bad pill. Then I ended up breaking a front axle, but we were able to finish the heat race.”

After starting ninth in his heat race, Marks placed seventh. The team fixed the problems and Marks started the main event 14th. He ended with another seventh-place finish to cap the weekend with another top-10 result, which was his fifth straight.

“We had about a seventh-place car,” he said. “We weren’t spectacular, but we were one of the few cars that passed a bunch of cars.”
Marks will alternate his races this weekend between Williams Grove Speedway and Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa. He will compete at Williams Grove Speedway on Sunday for the Billy Kimmel Memorial and at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday for the 159th annual Juniata County Fair Opener and Monday for the Foss Jewelers 62nd annual Sprint Labor Day Fair Classic.
