Racing at the Salina Highbanks Speedway for the 2nd week in a row, this time with the OCRS, Michael took time to salute our veterans and thank the fans for their support of dirt track racing. The Salina track "Saluted our Veterans" by providing a free meal and tickets to the races for the veterans. Michael displayed the BiGFooT sprinter (Car & Fleet Parts, Jet-Hot and Carter/Maxwell Goodyear sponsored car)just outside the "veterans" tent, passing out U.S. flags to the veterans and meeting some of the fans on their way in. At intermission, the BiGFooT sprinter and the sprint car of Michael Tyre were displayed between the stands and front stretch, where Michael & Michael tossed out Frisbees to young fans and signed autographs.
The BiGFooT team was fortunate to pit next to Dan Schnackenberg for the evening. In the Shawnee, Oklahoma, tornado earlier this year, Dan lost his house, but his race car and shop survived. Dan just turned 65 and has been racing since before Michael was born. His misfortune for the year continued with a series of flips in the "A" Feature; he was OK, but the car will need some work. His perseverance is a testament to his spirit and passion for racing and it was an honor to have raced with him.
