Marks Excited to Return to Next Year’s Knoxville Nationals After Solid Debut

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 12, 2013) – Brent Marks was so impressed with the 53rd annual FVP Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway that he’s already making plans to return next season.

“We’re going to do more traveling next year, maybe come out here a couple of times next year so we can be prepared for the Nationals,” he said. “It was a very good experience. We’re satisfied with what we did this week. I thought we were one of the best PA cars to come out here for not even seeing this place before this week.”

After placing 18th in the B Main during his preliminary night last Wednesday, Marks returned to the famed half-mile track on Friday. He noted that the car struggled early in the night, but the team picked up a few variables to adjust the more laps the car spent on the track.

Marks qualified 36th quickest and finished seventh in his heat race. That started him on the inside of the fifth row for the B Main, which he finished eighth.

“We were struggling all night with the car being too loose,” he said. “We were chasing it all night long and we made some big strides. I was pretty decent in the B Main. After that we went back to the drawing board and made a couple of changes for Saturday.”

Marks started Saturday’s finale 19th in the C Main, which transferred only the top four to the back of the B Main. Marks maneuvered up to seventh at one point before losing a trio of spots in the closing laps racing for a position.

“For us it’s all about seat time,” he said after placing 10th. “We needed to be here early in the year or race here more to find these things out. Every time we were on the race track we got better and better and better. So now we have a good baseline for next year.”

Marks is slated to return to Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Friday and Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., on Sunday.
