Wimmer Sixth in Knoxville Nationals ‘B’

Wimmer Sixth in Knoxville Nationals ‘B’

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though he missed out on making it into the Knoxville Nationals feature event, Brandon Wimmer and his Destiny Motorsports team turned in a performance they can be proud of as Wimmer scored a sixth place finish in the Knoxville Nationals ‘B’ Main.

“The entire team really wanted to come out here and make the feature, but we had some issues that set us back, and just missed out on the A, as we ran sixth in the B,” Wimmer said.

Getting underway on Wednesday night, Wimmer got off to a rocky start, as he timed the Mondak Portables/Rick Roger Construction/Speedmart No.9W in 32nd fastest.

Starting on the pole of his heat race, Wimmer slipped into the second spot on the start, but the Fairmount, IN driver made a bold move in three and four, to move into the lead, which he wouldn’t relinquish, and picked up the heat win, and transferred to the preliminary night feature.

Starting 15th in the A, Wimmer couldn’t seem to get going in a feature that featured several cautions that slowed the pace of the feature.

Wimmer was able to scratch and claw his way to a 12th place finish, forcing his team to try again on Friday night during the ‘Hard Knox’ preliminary night.

With 71 cars back in action on Friday night, Wimmer had a solid qualifying effort as he timed in 14th fastest, putting him on the front row of his heat race, alongside Jac Haudenschild, and he ran second, putting him in the feature event.

Starting ninth in the feature, Wimmer looked to secure a top-four finish, and earn a spot in the Saturday night feature event.

When the race got underway, Wimmer jumped up into the seventh spot, as he chased after Jason Johnson and Cap Henry.

As the laps clicked down, Wimmer looked to pick up a few more spots, as he worked into the sixth spot, with eight to go, and then slid Jason Johnson for the fifth spot, with just a couple laps to go, and came up just short of getting by Haudenschild for the fourth and final transfer spot, and put himself 11th in the Saturday night B.

Starting in the sixth row on Saturday night, Wimmer did what he could to get through the field, and turned in an impressive performance, that saw him work to a sixth place finish in the B, but was just shy of making the feature event.

“I have to thank all of my guys for working so hard all week,” Wimmer said. “We were able to move forward every time we were on the track, we just got off to a rough start during our qualifying night. We are getting better and better, and I am really thankful for the position that I am in.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Keizer Wheels, Triple X Chassis, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.
