(Bill W) August 10, 2013 – If you follow the Brian Brown Racing Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team, you know that the focus all year long is the Knoxville Nationals. Brian couldn’t be in better position to accomplish his dream of winning the Nationals. The Grain Valley, Missouri driver will start on the front row in tonight’s $150,000 to win championship event. He put himself in that position by winning the main event on Thursday night here.
Despite pulling the 34th pill for qualifying, you were able to turn a top ten lap in time trials on Thursday.
It was real nerve-wracking going out that late. That can sometimes hurt you. The car rolled around really well, and I felt I made a good lap as a driver. Obviously, our Charlie Garrett engines work really well. It sets the tone for your whole Nationals, so I was happy.
You started back in row four, and did what you had to do in the heat, finishing second.
We looked at the heat race lineup and thought we had an opportunity to get up through there. Terry (McCarl) got out to the lead and we were able to chase him down and run something really bad happens you are in the A main on Saturday.
What was your mindset heading into the feature?
At that point, we needed to finish as far forward as we could to get as many points as we could. Chad (Morgan) made a decision to change some things on the car before the A. He was for it and I was against it. It actually worked really well, and is something we can use tonight.
You didn’t waste much time moving towards the front, and once in the lead, you were cruising.
We wait 364 days to be in the position to win like we were on Thursday. We were able to take advantage of that and we were able to get up to second (after starting fifth) on the first lap. We were able to get by Roger (Crockett) on a restart and we were able to set sail. I saw Kerry (Madsen) one time, but it was pretty uneventful from where I was.
What is your strategy for tonight?
The tough part is done. We’ve been enjoying the last couple of days. We want to make sure we don’t do anything the first 25 laps to put us out of position to win. It doesn’t pay to win lap one or twenty-five. If we are in position in the top three or five at the halfway point, I think we have a really good shot at winning.

Associate Marketing Partner of the Week – Weld Wheels
Weld ®. The word is virtually synonymous with racing wheels. Their heritage is unmatched; their product is the choice of champions in most forms of motorsports. Founded in 1968 by Greg Weld out of the pure love of racing, the company has undergone many changes over the last forty years, but one thing that hasn’t changed is that the product is still designed and manufactured in Kansas City, USA. In November 2008, the heritage and future became one, as Weld Racing, LLC was formed by current Weld management and Granite Creek Partners, LLC, to place ownership and leadership of the company back in the hands of racers.
