Rilat Takes Challenge, Charges from Back to Finish 2nd at Race of Champions

Inside Line Promotions - EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada (Aug. 5, 2013) - The potent pair of Travis Rilat and car owner Richard Saumure closed out an impressive month of July with another podium.

Rilat piloted Saumure's No. 39c from 14th to the runner-up position last Wednesday at Castrol Raceway during the Race of Champions to end July with six podium results and eight top fives, including four straight.

The night began with Rilat maneuvered from seventh to fourth place in his heat race. He then advanced from sixth to second place in a dash, setting up a random draw to line up the 25-lap feature. The drivers each received a card and traded it with another driver, who opened it to reveal his or her starting position.

"I got the No. 2 to start front row outside," Rilat said. "They had $2,000 to go to the back. One of our sponsors, Carlan Services, put up another $2,000 to go to the back. I was a little leery about taking the challenge because the track was pretty hooked up. I knew it was going to be tough because the track was narrow and it was fast."

Rilat accepted the challenge and started 14th.

"We went green until Lap 20," he said.

Rilat had advanced to 10th on the second lap and cracked the top five on Lap 20. He took advantage of two more cautions in the final five laps. Rilat reached third place on Lap 22 and on the ensuing lap he gained the runner-up position, which is where he finished.

"I was able to move around," he said. "I could go to the top, bottom, middle, anyone they weren't. We gave the fans a show and had some fun myself."

Rilat and Saumure have combined for 12 top-five finishes in 18 races this season.

Rilat's next scheduled event will be with Saumure at Castrol Raceway on Aug. 23-24 for the Oil City Cup with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.
