Starks Hangs On For Sixth Place at Hooked Up Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 4, 2013) - If it was a wheelie contest, Trey Starks would have won on Saturday at Skagit Speedway.

However, his car's tight setup on the hooked-up 3/10-mile track thwarted Starks' chances for victory and relegated him to a sixth-place finish.

"I think it was more of a show for the fans to watch me pull wheelies every straightaway," he said. "The track was like a motocross track. There was a huge bump going into (turn) one. It's always there, but it hasn't been that bad in a couple of years. The track was hooked up all night long. We had the car so tight it was ridiculous. We thought the track might go away a little."

After qualifying fourth quickest, Starks charged from third to the lead on the opening lap of his heat race, which he won.

"We got a good start coming off turn four and I kinda pulled a bonsai move through infield to get the lead," he said. "I knew that if I wanted to survive the heat race I needed to get out front. Even when we were leading we were extremely tight. We were pulling the front end off the ground left and right."

In search for his third feature win of the season, Starks started the 25-lap main event on the inside of the second row.

"We dropped to fourth on the start and ran there until we were trying to get around a lapped car about three-quarters through the race," he said. "We were at the mercy of the lapped car. I couldn't get my car to go where I wanted. Two cars snuck by me and that's where we rode the rest of the night.

"The only thing you take away from that night is when the Outlaws come, which is what we're gearing up for, the track isn't going to be like that. I know the track is going to be a little bit wider for the Outlaws."

Starks said he will likely race at either Skagit Speedway or Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., on Saturday.
