Inside Line Promotions – BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. (July 31, 2013) – Brent Marks put together another solid week of racing in Central Pennsylvania.
Marks added a trio of finishes in the top seven to give him 39 top-10 results this season, including eight of the last nine races.
“It was a good, consistent week,” he said. “It wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted to get a win.”
Marks opened the weekend on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where he maneuvered from fourth to third place in his heat race to advance to the feature. He started on the outside of the fourth row and used the latter stage of the race to move forward.
“We had a pretty good night,” he said. “We were kinda mediocre in the beginning of the race. My car just started coming on halfway to the end. We were able to work our way through traffic and get up there. The preferred line in (turns) three and four was up against the fence. I made a lot of my passes running the bottom in (turns) one and two.”
Marks rallied for a third-place finish, giving him 18 top fives this year.
After Saturday races were washed out across Central Pennsylvania, Marks and the team tackled Path Valley Speedway in Spring Run, Pa., on Sunday. Marks established quick time in qualifying for the first time this season, which guaranteed him a spot in the feature redraw.
He didn’t have to compete in a heat race and pulled the No. 1 during the random draw to earn the pole for the main event.
“The feature was kind of our own mistake,” he said. “We ended up putting the wrong right rear tire on the car. It was a self-inflicted mistake. Everything was going well and everything was carefree and we just missed it. Our right rear tire we had on the car was an inch smaller than we wanted.
“I was really, really tight the whole feature. Everywhere I went on the track I just couldn’t do anything. It was unfortunate because we started on the pole. We just basically blew it. Nobody ever wants to drop like we did.”
Marks held on for a seventh-place finish at the track where he grew up racing go-karts.
The team opened competition this week on Tuesday at Grandview Speedway.
Marks qualified 10th quickest and won his heat race to advance to the main event, which he started on the outside of the fourth row.
“It was a solid night,” he said. “I kinda overadjusted the car a little bit. I was just too tight all feature long. I got up to fifth at one point. I was moving around trying to gain some ground and lost a couple of spots. It was a decent run, but we just weren’t fantastic.”
Marks is scheduled to compete on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway and on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., for the Living Legends Dream Race.
