The third and final leg of the Week of Speed saw the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints venturing outside of the Cornhusker state for the first time by visiting Crawford County Speedway in Denison, Iowa for a midweek race at the famed race track. Although the track had been shortened in recent years, the track was still super fast and a good crowd was on hand and were not going to leave disappointed as the pits were filled with 19 winged warriors with cars from not only Nebraska, but from Iowa and South Dakota as well.
The first heat saw Lincoln's Billy Alley win from his front row-outside starting position, followed to the finish line by Josh Riggins, Stu Snyder and Gregg Bakker. In the 2nd heat, Jack Dover, like Alley won the heat from his front row starting position followed by Tasker Phillips, Tyler Drueke and Jason Danley. The 3rd and final heat saw Jordan Boston race to the win from his 2nd row starting spot followed closely by Dustin Selvage, John Klabunde and Dylan Peterson.
The top 8 in passing points for the Feature redraw were Dover, Alley, Boston, Snyder, Phillips, Riggins, Selvage and Bakker. Bakker an Selvage were the lucky two that drew the front row for the evening's 25 lap A Feature.
At the drop of the green flag, going into turn one Stu Snyder jumped the right rear tire of Josh Riggins and flipped head first into the concrete outer wall, collapsing the cage around Stu. Fortunately, Stu was able to walk away from the crash, albeit a bit sore and stiff. After the race resumed with a complete restart Dustin Selvage raced to the point and held the position until Jack Dover, who worked his way up from his 7th starting spot, took the top spot away from Selvage. After several yellow flags for spins and mechanical failures, Dover maintained a comfortable lead over Selvage until 3 laps to go when Dover clipped the wall coming out of turn 4, causing a flat right rear tire, bringing out yet another yellow flag. When the race resumed, Cody Ledger ran over the the car of Casey Fredrickson, who slowed because of running out of fuel going into turn 1, causing Ledger to flip his car and bringing out another red flag. Once the race resumed for the final 3 laps, no one had anything for Selvage as he raced to victory, followed by Bakker, Alley, Drueke and Trevor Grossenbacher rounding out the top five. While in the Fuse Weekly Victory Lane, Selvage drew the #2 pill, awarding the Electrical Systems, Inc Challenge to Gregg Bakker who added an additional $300 to his second place winnings.
Jeff Lowery, who was involved in a near head-on collision in Iowa and Trevor Grossenbacher who had problems with his hauler while on I-80 in Nebraska, and had to borrow a pickup from a friend, both made it to the races. It just proves how much the guys running with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints will do anything to make it to the next race! We appreciate all of the competitors that have raced with us and the sacrifices they make to do so.
After a 3 week break, the Nebraska 360 sprints return to action on Saturday, August 17th in Doniphan, NE at Mid-Nebraska Speedway when a co-sanctioned race with the NCRA takes place. It should be a great race with some great cars and we fully expect some super racing. We're excited to be racing in Central Nebraska for this show and hope to make some new fans, see you there!
