Engine Issues Slow Wimmer at Knoxville

PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of his fourth place finish at the King’s Royal, Brandon Wimmer and his Destiny Motorsports team made their first laps of the year the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night, but engine woes slowed the team and knocked them out of the second position.

“We really seem to be hitting our stride when it counts, and showing some speed,” Wimmer said. “We had some engine trouble, but I cannot wait for the Nationals.”

With 32 cars on hand hoping to get in some final testing before the Knoxville Nationals, Wimmer timed his Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Speedmart backed entry in 10th fastest.

Lining up fourth in his heat, the Fairmount, IN pilot had a great start, as he shot to the lead, and never looked back, putting him into the feature event, where he found himself on the front row.

Lining up in the second position, Wimmer shot out to the early advantage, but as the leaders got into the first turn, pole sitter, Tasker Phillips, got up over Wimmer’s right-rear, and the race was stopped.

On the restart, Wimmer now shared the front row with Danny Lasoski, and back underway, the Knoxville ledgend, grabbed the early lead, while Wimmer was in tow.

Over the next three laps, Wimmer chased after him, but on trouble broke on the third lap, as Wimmer’s engine let go, and he was done for the evening.

“There who no holes in the block, or nothing hanging off of it when we pulled it out, so hopefully it is not too bad,” he said. “I am very proud with how we have been the last few night’s out, and like I said, cannot wait for the Nationals.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Keizer Wheels, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.
