Binz Charges to Career-Best Runner-Up Performance After Slow Start

Inside Line Promotions - KENNEDALE, Texas (July 15, 2013) - What started out as a nightmare for John Binz ended as his best career night.

After maneuvering from sixth to fourth place during his first of two winged mini sprint heat races on Friday at Kennedale Speedway Park, Binz ran into an engine issue as the polesitter of his second heat race.

"The motor wouldn't run," he said. "I didn't go so I just pulled into the infield. We took the green and the thing never took off. Everybody passed me before the flag stand. Kevin Ramey came over and he worked on my carburetor."

After finishing last in his heat race and with help from Ramey, Binz made it to the feature, which he started on the inside of the fourth row. However, the same issue plagued him on the start and Binz pulled to the infield.

"There was a caution on the first lap and so the start didn't go," he said. "I was in the infield and I figured I'll go tag the back and see if I can make it run. I cleaned it out really good before the green. I held the clutch in and gassed it up."

That seemed to do the trick as Binz restarted last and began to work his way through the field. Committed to the outside groove, Binz advanced to the runner-up position before a late restart.

"Once you got it going it would run," he said. "We had a restart with seven or eight (laps) to go and the thing didn't want to take off again coming off turn four. I had to clean it out again."

While he lost ground on the leader, Binz maintained second place and earned his career best finish.

"It turned out to be the best night so far," he said. "If it would have just took off we would have had a chance."

Binz is scheduled to return to Kennedale Speedway Park on Friday for more winged action.
