Inside Line Promotions - CALUMET, Iowa (July 9, 2013) - There aren't many racing fans who would turn away an opportunity to compete wheel to wheel with NASCAR superstars Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon.
Stepping Stone Genetics Founder Jim Pomerenke is that rare fan who has given up his chance to race with a couple of the best open wheel and stock car drivers in the history of the sport. And you can be the benefactor.
Pomerenke purchased one of the select spots for the Wednesday go-kart race at Slideways Karting Center during the week of the 53rd annual FVP Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, Aug. 7-10. Instead of competing, Stepping Stone Genetics and Pomerenke will raffle off the position on Aug. 1 to one lucky fan who donates $20 or more to the Stepping Stone Genetics Moneymakers team through Tony Stewart's Kick-It Cup ( http://www.kick-it.org/events/tony-stewarts-kick-it-cup).
"Not everyone can donate a ton of money, but we think $20 for the chance to race against Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon is a great deal for everybody," Pomerenke said. "We're super excited about the way things are going and all the money being brought in. It looks like it will be a record-breaking event for such a great cause."
The 2nd annual event at the Knoxville Nationals - sprint car racing's most famous event - benefits the Kick-It organization, which uses kickball games to raise money for pediatric, adolescent and young adult cancer research. So far more than $15,000 has been raised for the event, which includes an auction filled with racing memorabilia and the actual Kick-It game.
Not only does the lucky winner of the raffle get to race with Stewart and Gordon, he or she may also earn a spot on one of the four kickball teams. The top-two finishers in each heat race will qualify for the feature event and comprise the fourth team in the kickball event, set for Aug. 9 at Young Field beginning at 11 a.m.
"We'd like to thank everybody who has helped, including the teams, sponsors, car owners, drivers and fans," Pomerenke said. "Stepping Stone Genetics is excited to get behind this worthwhile cause to raise money for childhood cancer and I sincerely hope that a lot of people will take advantage of this raffle to race against Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon."
