Kerry Madsen – Huset’s Tonight Then on to Dodge!

(Bill W) July 3, 2013 – Driver Kerry Madsen and the Keneric Racing #29 team will be back at it tonight at the Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota. Then, it’s on to Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas Friday and Saturday night. The team competed with the World of Outlaws in events in La Salle, Illinois, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and New Richmond, Wisconsin last weekend.

Friday, Kerry qualified 13th, before winning his heat and finishing fifth in the Dash at La Salle Speedway. “We felt really good in the heat and the Dash,” he says. “In the feature, on the third restart or so, I hit the cushion in three and four and bicycled. We did all but get upside down and flattened the left rear. We had to go to the work area.”

Restarting at the tail, the last thirty-seven laps went green, and Kerry charged to twelfth. “We came back o.k. and ran up to twelfth,” he says. “It was a shame after starting sixth that we couldn’t capitalize, but the car was fast.”

Saturday it was Beaver Dam Raceway playing host. Kerry was eighth quick, won his heat from row two and finished fifth in the Dash. “We were o.k. in qualifying, and really good in the heat race,” he says. “The Dash went well too.”

Kerry was running strong in the feature before a spin on the white flag lap. “We were definitely going to get a good result at Beaver Dam,” he says. “We were running seventh on the last lap. I tried to get around a lapped car and spun out. It was my own fault, so it was disappointing.”

On Sunday at Cedar Lake Speedway, Kerry qualified ninth, before making it a perfect three for three for the weekend on heat wins. He finished ninth in the Dash after starting seventh. “We qualified really well for when we went out,” he says. “We were really good in the heat race, but lost a couple spots in the Dash. I kind of screwed up the start.”

Starting in row five, Kerry steadily worked his way up through the field before a late double-file restart. “We were o.k. in the feature,” he says. “We lined up seventh on the last restart. I was in the wrong line on the double-file restart and got off terribly. I got pushed to the bottom in one and two and got freight trained. I got eaten up. I don’t even know where we finished (12th). I didn’t even look.”

The double-file restart has been controversial since it’s implementation by the WoO. “That’s Outlaw racing right now,” says Kerry. “These are my thoughts, and a lot of people don’t like them, but I just don’t like these double-file restarts. They are great when you’re in the right line. You look like a hero. If you’re in the wrong line, it ruins some racing and some good runs. I guess I’m kind of ‘Old School’. I think the single-file restarts give you better racing and get you back to lapped traffic faster.”

Kerry is excited about getting to Huset’s tonight and Dodge City this weekend. “I like going to Huset’s, but something strange always seems to happen there,” he says. “Last year, it was Terry McCarl falling out of the sky on us. Dodge City is always fun too. I’m looking forward to all of that.”
