Thursday, July 4 will have the Gulf South Region in Paige, Texas and the quarter-mile Cotton Bowl Speedway. Joined by the Gulf South Mod-Lites and Modifieds, the night will also include a fireworks show for all who attend. Gates open at 5:00 P.M. (CDT) with races getting underway at 7:00 P.M. A two hour jog puts the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region at the quarter-mile oval in Edna, Texas for the Texana Raceway Park on Friday, July 5. Scheduled to begin at 7:00 P.M. the Gulf South Region will be joined by the STLM Late Models, Pure Stocks, and Mod-Lites. Taxana Raceway Park is located at 258 County Rd 412, Edna TX. 77957. Finishing up the Independence Day Weekend is the high-banked, three-eighths mile Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas. The region’s third visit of 2013, the Battleground Speedway has averaged 25 drivers this season with Aaron Reutzel taking the win on March 2, followed by Logan Forler on April 4. The night’s lineup of support classes will include Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Limited Modifieds, Mod Lites, and Jr. Mini Stocks. The Battleground Speedway is located at 10625 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd. A quick statistical breakdown going into the Independence Day Weekend finds 13 dates having been contested with the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region with 10 winners on the season.
The only repeat winner so far in 2013 is Aaron Reutzel with four victories coming at the Battleground Speedway (3/1), Gator Motorplex (4/20), South Texas Speedway (5/26), and the Texas Thunder Speedway (6/8).
In 13 feature events, 14 drivers have led laps with Reutzel out front for 105 of the 365 laps completed. Current series point’s leader Ray Allen Kulhanek has 38 to his credit with Brad Loyet and Johnny Herrera each at 30. Jason Johnson and Kevin Ramey are tied having led 25 rounds followed by Travis Rilat with 19, Christopher Bell at 18, and Michael McNeil rounding out the top ten with 17 laps led. Kolt Walker, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Channin Tankersley, and Beau Smith conclude the list of lap leaders.
A total of 48 Heat Races have been contested with 25 winners along with 14 B-Features among 12 winners.
The average car count after 13 races stands at 28.462 per night. The season’s highest car count was on April 19 at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway with 41 cars.
Ray Allen Kulhanek currently leads the driver standings by 44 over Aaron Reutzel. Channin Tankersley holds third with Brandon Berryman and Beau Smith making up the top five.
