Ben Deatherage - ELMA, Wash. (June 25, 2013) The American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region is gearing up for the 2013 Bully Dog Performance Speedweek Northwest presented by Contingency Connection this weekend at Grays Harbor Raceway.
This year will mark the sixteenth edition of the popular Speedweek series. The 3/8-mile clay oval will be the host of the first two legs with this Friday June 28th and Saturday the 29th.
“Traditionally Grays Harbor Raceway ends Speedweek,” commented Brian Crockett, ASCS-Northwest Region Series Director, “This year it will open it up. Elma is by far the biggest track these guys will visit all week long. “
In the previous fifteen years of history of Speedweek Northwest Grays Harbor Raceway has hosted twenty-six events since 1998. In those twenty-six races there have been fifteen different winners.
Last year fans were treated to two main events on Saturday July 21st after rain brought the Friday program to a halt. Both Shane Stewart and Wayne Johnson were the winners of the two features ran in 2012.
Steve Kent leads the win list, when it comes to Speedweek Northwest victories at GHR, as he has amassed a total of six.
Defending ASCS-Northwest champion Roger Crockett has four Speedweek wins at Elma while Brad Furr, Jason Johnson and Rick Fauver each have two.
Drivers that have won once include Kasey Kahne, Bud Kaeding, Shawna Wilskey, Brent Kaeding, Travis Jacobson, Jay Cole, Danny Lasoski, Travis Rilat, and the aforementioned Shane Stewart and Wayne Johnson.
In the fifteen years of Bully Dog Performance Speedweek Northwest there have been nine different champions. Steve Kent has the most, with four titles, while Roger Crockett has three and Brent Kaeding with two. Six drivers have won the entire kit and caboodle just once which is a very impressive list of winners. That list includes Brad Furr, Jesse Hockett, Bud Kaeding, Kyle Larson, Shane Stewart, and the 2012 victor Mitch Olson.
From 1998 until 2006 Speedweek Northwest was sanctioned under the Northern Sprint Tour banner while 2007 was the only year the Northwest Sprint Challenge Series existed.
Ever since the 2008 season Speedweek events have been sanctioned by the ASCS-Northwest Region. Only once has a driver (Brad Furr in 1999) won every single Speedweek race in a year. On two occasions a Speedweek champion has been crowned without winning a feature during the week (Steve Kent in 2006 and Mitch Olson in 2012).
Since 2008 when the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region was formed there have been twenty-three sanctioned races with eleven different winners. Roger Crockett has won the most ASCS-Northwest events at GHR with six wins over Jason Solwold who has four.
Shane Stewart has won three times with the group while Jason Johnson and Jayme Barnes have two victories each. Drivers visiting victory lane once includes Brock Lemley, Wayne Johnson, Shawn Rice, Travis Rilat, Seth Bergman, and Danny Lasoski.
In local competition there have been five races at Grays Harbor Raceway with four different winners. Reece Goetz is the only driver to have won more than one main event at the 3/8-mile speed factory. Defending track champion J.J. Hickle, Evan Margeson, and Henry Van Dam have visited the winner’s circle on one occasion each.
