Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 24, 2013) – Sprint Cars take the spotlight this Saturday night at Dodge City Raceway Park as the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) takes to the 3/8-mile clay oval for the second time this season.
The URSS Sprint Cars will be joined on Saturday’s card by the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars with racing action going green at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday’s event marks the first of two consecutive weekends of Sprint Car action atop the DCRP oval with the World of Outlaws Boot Hill Showdown to follow on July 5-6. The URSS Sprint Cars make their second of four scheduled DCRP events this Saturday after reigning champion Brian Herbert held off rookie contender Richie Dewell and current series points leader Ray Seemann for victory honors on May 11.
Currently ranked fifth in points, Herbert will be trying to defend his hometown Dodge City turf for a second win on Saturday night.
Jetmore’s Seemann currently holds a 76-point lead over Zac Taylor in the URSS points chase with Dewell, Luke Cranston and Herbert filling out the top five.
A trio of the track’s championship chase divisions add to Saturday’s excitement with each class looking for a potential first time repeat winner in six tries.
Turpin, Oklahoma’s Cody Gearhart has moved atop the IMCA Modified point charts with a 21-point advantage over Goddard, Kansas’ Austin Allen with Jon Herring, Jr., who topped the most recent event on June 15, moving up to third. Jesse Smith and Beau Davis round out the current top five.
Woodward, Oklahoma’s Jeff Kaup holds a 20-point lead over Clay Sellard of Bucklin, KS, in the United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds with Josh Appel, Matthew Crowell and Austin Walker filling out the rest of the top five.
In IMCA Stock Cars, Billy Phelps of Mooreland, OK, has built a 64-point advantage while being shut out of victory lane thus far. Keith Riley of Larned, KS, is just four points ahead of June 15 winner Marlin Hogie in the battle for second with Brett Copeland and Dusty Witthuhn rounding out the top five.
Tickets to Saturday’s URSS Sprint Car card along with Modifieds, Sport Modifieds and Stock Cars are just $12, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
In addition to the much anticipated World of Outlaws Boot Hill Showdown on July 5-6, 18 scheduled nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park over the course of 2013 features several special events including the TORC Off Road Trucks in April, a pair of $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified tilts in July along with USAC Sprint Cars on August 23-24 and four rounds of URSS Sprint Car competition along the way.
