Mechanicsburg - Williams Grove Speedway has released its 2014 schedule of events for sprint cars with its 75th anniversary Opening Day races set for Friday, March 28 at 7:30 pm, featuring both the 410 and 358 sprint cars and fireworks to help celebrate.
A test and tune program will pre-date the season opener, taking place at 1 pm on Sunday March 23. The session will be open to 410 and 358 sprints, super sportsman, 358 late models and street stocks.
In all, the high-powered, marquee division 410 sprint cars will compete in 33 programs during the 2014 Williams Grove season with numerous big events slated to take place.
The 358 sprint cars will launch their 2014 campaign along with the 410 sprints on March 28 before returning 17 more times during the season including three other occasions when they will compete in tandem with the URC 360-powered sprints.
After the season lidlifter, the first big 410 sprint Williams Grove race of the season comes up on April 18 when the Spring Classic Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial is staged while kicking off the 2014 Diamond Series of races.
The Diamond Series is run each season comprised of a handful of the biggest oval races of the year, carrying their own points and a payoff at seasons end.
Other big Williams Grove 410 sprint races in 2014 include a pair of Pennsylvania Speedweek shows, kicking off the series Friday, June 27 before returning on Independence Day, July 4, with the highlight of Speedweek, the Mitch Smith Memorial.
Twin 20s for 410 sprints will be spun off on August 15 before the Jack Gunn Memorial with an Australian format twist, honoring the late Hall of Fame promoter, returns on August 29.
The 410 sprints and a super sportsman championship will make up the Billy Kimmel Memorial on Sunday, August 31.
The STP World of Outlaws 410 sprint cars will be back at Williams Grove Speedway for their customary six annual shows at the historic oval spanning three weekends from May through October.
The May weekend WoO stand spans May 16 and 17.
The Summer Nationals for the World of Outlaws will take place July 18 and 19 before the premier drivers in the sport return to the Grove for the 52nd annual World of Outlaws National Open on October 3 and 4.
The UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints will be hosted at Williams Grove on two occasions during the 2014 season, first appearing on April 25 and then again on June 13.
The season will come to a close on Saturday, October 18 with the Fall Fest features-only program for 410 and 358 sprints, super sportsman and 358 late models.
Starting time for all sprint car events at the track in 2014 aside from the season finale is set for 7:30 pm with warm-ups slated to take place 30 minutes prior.
The super late models will make only one appearance at the track this season, early in the year on April 4.
Also appearing during the year will be the PASS 305 sprints, ARDC Midgets and URC sprints.
