Bryan Hulbert – TULSA, Okla. (October 30, 2024) When the banners are hoisted at the SageNet Center in December, there will be a new logo overlooking the first and second turns of the Tulsa Expo Raceway, as Smiley’s Racing Products has stepped up as the title sponsor of the 40th annual Tulsa Shootout powered by NOS Energy Drink.
Owned and operated by Tom Lorenz, his passion for racing began with building cars in 1977 out of his one-car garage. Behind the wheel for over 45 years, Lorenz has raced everything from Factory Stocks to Sport Mods, Winged Modifieds, Late Models, Sprint Cars, and ARCA Super Speedway Cars, and through it all, has captured nine driving titles.
“We always supported the Shootout through Factor 1, and it’s been a really great deal, especially seeing these kids that have grown up and are racing just about everything there is now, so it means a lot to be involved with the Tulsa Shootout like this going forward,” stated Tom Lorenz.
Purchasing Smiley’s Racing Products in 1985, as a one-man operation, today, Smiley’s Racing Products has grown to become a major supplier of performance products across nearly every vocation of motorsports, with four locations across Texas and Oklahoma holding over $6.5 Million in inventory.
Involved with the support of Tulsa Expo Raceway for almost two decades, Tom’s relationship and support of racers extended beyond that with many years sponsoring and giving back to racers with Emmett Hahn during his stewardship of the American Sprint Car Series, as well as Creek County Speedway, which Hahn constructed in 1985.
“The relationship with the Hahn family has been a long one. From his grandkids racing the small cars to the Sprint Cars, his track there in Sapulpa, ASCS, and Expo; it’s been great both personally and professionally where we’ve been able to bounce things off each other and do what I felt like was needed, and he did what he felt was needed to help the racers. That partnership between Emmett, Fuzzy, and Smiley’s with Hoosier Tire Southwest is something I’m very proud of.”
