Binz Flips to Ruin Career Night at Kennedale Speedway Park

Inside Line Promotions - KENNEDALE, Texas (June 3, 2013) - What looked like his best shot to win quickly turned into a nightmare.

After starting on the pole and racing among the top three, John Binz endured a nasty flip during his nonwing mini sprint feature at Kennedale Speedway Park on Friday.

"It was a racing deal," he said. "I was trying to go around (traffic) and the other driver was trying to go below them and we collided. I flipped three or four times, probably a quarter of the way down the back straightaway."

It ended his night with a junked car and a 16th-place finish. However, up to that point, Binz was having a career-best night.

Utilizing a double heat format, Binz powered from fourth to second on the opening lap of his first heat race. He did the same thing in the second heat race, but was able to maneuver around the leader midway through to win.

That gave him the most points of the night and the pole for the main event.

After falling to third place on the opening lap of the feature, Binz and the top two reached traffic around Lap 7. As he worked the high groove and tried to guess which way the slower cars going a lap down were driving, Binz bumped wheels with a fellow competitor exiting turn two. The contact forced him into several flips and destroyed all four shocks, the front and rear ends, and "pretty much all of the bolt-on parts."

With a lot of parts to buy and work to put the car back together, Binz's goal is to have the car ready for action on Friday, June 14, when mini sprints will serve as a support class during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Kennedale Speedway Park.

"I really want to come back for that race, but the funds are really tight right now," he said. "Hopefully I can find some a little help and piece it back together in time."
