Inside Line Promotions – COLCORD, Okla. (Sept. 16, 2024) – Jordon Mallett highlighted an ASCS National Tour weekend at Arrowhead Speedway with a top-five outing last Friday.
The strong run kicked off a doubleheader at the dirt oval, where Mallett was second quickest in his qualifying group before winning a heat race.
“We timed in really well and we heat raced good,” he said. “When you start on the pole of a heat race your only option is to win it to make it into the dash. We ran second in the dash and started second in the feature.
“We ran third the first little bit of the feature, but we were too free early on. We were counting on it rubbering up and I got us too free early on. That hindered our effort early. We had a couple of restarts and slipped to fourth and then fifth. As the rubber came in our car got a lot better. I’m disappointed we weren’t more snug early on, but we missed it. However, it was a solid effort overall and I was glad we finished in the top five.”
Mallett’s fifth-place result was his 12th top five of the season and seventh in a row.
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday, when Mallett was fifth quickest in his qualifying group. He then placed fifth in a heat race before hustling from 14th to seventh in the main event.
“We weren’t as good out of the box,” he said. “We didn’t time in good. I made a couple of changes and got us off a little in qualifying. We heat raced good enough to get ourselves transferred into the feature. We had a really good race car in the feature and were able to move forward. I was a lot more pleased with the car on Saturday than Friday. It was just a problem of starting too far back. I felt we did a good job of managing that night after a rough start to the night.”
Mallett will take this weekend off before joining the ASCS National Tour Sept. 27-28 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., during the World Short Track Challenge.
