Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 11, 2024) – Jack Dover produced a trio of top-six results last weekend, highlighted by a runner-up result during the opening night of three straight days of racing in Nebraska.
“I was wanting to win, but there was an average of 30 cars every night and there were a lot of good drivers,” he said. “Considering I hadn’t been in the car much – I think eight races this season going into the weekend – and to have an average finish of fourth, I was pleased with how it went.”
The action began at Beatrice Speedway in Beatrice last Friday, where Dover advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to move into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 2 to line up on the outside of the front row in the main event.
“The polesitter got the jump,” he said. “I kept trying to move my line. We were hanging right there with them. Third place found a spot of rubber and got past me and then the leader. With about 10 or 12 laps to go I got back into second place. There was a late restart and I just had nothing for the first-place car.”
The team ventured to Thayer County Speedway in Deshler on Saturday. Dover finished second in a heat race to again make the feature redraw. This time he pulled the No. 5 to start fifth. Dover gained a position on the tricky track to end fourth.
“We had to switch motors because it got hot in the heat race,” he said. “It was right around the bottom the whole feature. We were able to pick one off and that was about as exciting as Saturday night got.”
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Eagle Raceway, which hosted the Stewart Alley Memorial. Dover was seventh quickest in his qualifying group to open the Gunderson Racing Inc. Midwest Sprint Touring Series 360 Sprint Cars event. He maneuvered forward one position to place third in a heat race before capping the night by rallying from 11th to sixth in the feature.
“It was pretty good considering the field of drivers who were there,” he said. “I just picked them off one by one. We were up to fifth at one point. The rubber started coming in up top and a driver got back by me for fifth. It wasn’t an aggressive rubber, but just enough you had to be in the groove or you’d go backwards. We settled into line and ended up running sixth.”
