9/6/2024 Beatrice, Nebraska (www.urssracing.com) - For just the second time in series history, the United Rebel Sprint Series traveled to Beatrice Speedway in Beatrice, Nebraska for the 2nd Annual Sprint Car Challenge.
Once preliminary heat races were complete and a top 6 redraw was complete, the #25 of Gunnar Pike, (South Bend, Nebraska), and the #15v of Cole Vanderheiden, (Papillion, Nebraska), were scheduled to lead the Rebels to green for 20-laps.
On the opening lap, Gunnar Pike took charge of the top position as the field worked down the back straightaway. Starting third in the feature, it only took 2 laps for the #45 of Monty Ferriera, (Lincoln, Nebraska), to find the sweet spot. On lap 2, Ferriera would get a run down the backstretch and make a sliding pass on the #25 of Gunnar Pike for the lead, setting sail into turn one.
Lap after lap, the field continued to shuffle and jockey for position, with the #4x of Jason Danley, (Lincoln, Nebraska), passing five cars to grab the hard charger award of the night.
With 7 laps to go, the one and only caution came out due to the #11R of Cade Richards, (Lincoln, Nebraska), blowing a left rear tire coming out of turn 2 and parking his car down the back stretch.
On the single file restart, Monty Ferriera was able to get a good jump on Gunnar Pike and that was all she wrote for the driver out of Lincoln, Nebraska.
With the win at Beatrice Speedway, it’s now Ferriera’s 2nd win with the United Rebel Sprint Series, with his first coming back in 2022 at I-70 Speedway.
The series will head to Thayer County Speedway on Saturday, September 7th to conclude the 2-day Nebraska weekend for the National Tour.
