By Curtis Berleue (Granby, QC) | On the first night of a two-night trip to Quebec for the Empire Super Sprints, it was Jason Barney sitting in victory lane. Worth $3,000, it was Barneys first victory at the Granby, Quebec track and his third win overall of 2024 on the tour.

Pinnacle Pole Award winner Logan Crisafulli jumped out to the lead on the initial green, though the field failed to complete a lap as the red flew for a flipping Matt Tanner in turns three and four.

On the restart, Crisafulli again jumped out to the lead, this time with Jason Barney in tow, moving up from his third starting position.

As the lap counter clicked 5 laps complete, Crisafulli had opened up a nearly two second advantage over Barney and third place Jordan Poirier. He would hold that lead until the second red of the even flew on lap 15, this time for Davie Franek who flipped after catching the inside wall in turns one and two.

When action resumed, Crisafulli’s night abruptly came to an end as he made contact with Barney entering turn one, bringing out another caution.

On the ensuing restart, Barney was able to quickly open a lead over Shawn Donath and Jordan Poirier, who were battling for second. With 5 laps remaining, Poirier took sole possession of second place as Donath began to slip backwards.

While Joe Trenca was able to get by Donath for third with three laps remaining, nobody had anything for the #87 of Barney, who picked up his third win of 2024.

“This isn’t exactly one I’m too proud of,” said Barney in victory lane. “I completely wiped Matt (Tanner) out, I just went in the corner on the start and had no brakes. I couldn’t feel any worse for him right now.”

“Logan, I thought I had position on him, I didn’t know he was there. Just not how I wanted to win a race. I feel bad for everybody.”

Jordan Poirier came home second, and Joe Trenca rounded out they Ashley Lynn Winery podium finishing in third.

In front of a packed house, the field was split into two timed hot lap groups with Logan Crisafulli and Matt Tanner earning Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards. E&V heat race wins went to Danny Varin and Jordan Poirer.
