(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 21, 2024 – Although going about it in two different ways the end result was the same for Travis Arenz and the members of the Travis Arenz Motorsports team in Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series action at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, Aug. 18.
With a Kenosha County Fair Night crowd looking on, Arenz’s night at Wilmot got off to a slow start with a late draw leading to a 22nd place qualifying run out of the 27 cars in attendance with a lap of 13.836 seconds.
The 17th-year competitor started eighth and placed one spot short of an A-main transfer spot with a seventh place showing in the first eight-lap IRA heat race. The 2021 and 2022 Midwest Sprint Car Association – Plymouth Dirt Track Racing champion then placed second after starting third in the 12-lap IRA B main to advance to the evening’s 30-lap IRA headliner.
As he has on a couple of other occasions this year, Arenz flipped the switch into hard charger mode in moving up from the 20th starting spot to come home with an impressive eighth place showing in the 30-lap IRA A-main.
“Like normal, I didn’t draw well, which caused us to qualify very late in the group at Wilmot,” Arenz said. “The track was pretty tricky as it was dry in some spots and had a lot of moisture in others. I didn’t hit my marks the best, so our outcome wasn’t where we needed to be. After starting deep in the heat race and realizing there wasn’t going to be a lot of passing happening, we had to run the B-main. We made quite a few adjustments to our setup and rolled out 20th for the A-main. I love racing at Wilmot and typically have good results there. After struggling early in the night, advancing 12 spots in the feature was what we needed. While doing maintenance on Sunday morning we found that our chassis is bent, which could be part of the struggle we had at Wilmot.”
One night later at Angell Park Speedway, Arenz enjoyed a much smoother and consistent night of racing. He opened by qualifying sixth overall in the 27-car field with a lap of 13.288 seconds before advancing from the third starting spot to place second in the third eight-lap IRA heat race.
Arenz then rolled off fourth before placing fifth in the first four-lap IRA dash to gain the ninth starting spot in the 30-lap main event.
The 2013 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Outlaw Compact Four-Cylinder and 2016 141 Speedway Northern Sport Mod champion negotiated his way through three caution flags and a red flag which included an open red period to register an eighth place main event finish.
The weekend pair of eighth place showings pushed Arenz’s number of top 10 A-main finishes to six in the 13 IRA Sprint Car Series events the Travis Arenz Motorsports Team has contested during the 2024 campaign.
“At Angell Park, we had a lot better qualifying position, and the heat race results put us in the dash,” Arenz said. “We started in the back of the dash, but it still allowed us a ninth place starting position in the feature. There’s not much to say about the feature results, as I bounced around that same position the entire race. All in all, we are ready to regroup and move on to Plymouth in a couple of weeks for the fair night race.
“I am still looking for another set of crew hands to help for the remainder of the season and, hopefully, for seasons to come,” he said. “Anyone with an interest can reach out to me for more info.”
Those interested in assisting the team as a crew member can send a direct message to Travis through the Travis Arenz Motorsports Facebook page.
