A doubleheader weekend with the USAC Silver Crown National Championship for Kyle Steffens kicked off on Friday with a trip to World Wide Technology Raceway (Madison, Ill.) for the Ranken Technical College Silver Crown Showdown presented by Welsch Heating & Cooling.
With time trials setting the grid for the 60-lap main event, Steffens laid down the 11th-fastest lap aboard his Performance Plus Global Logistics No. 8 entry. Making gains in the feature, Steffens inched forward to register a ninth-place finish.
At the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield, Ill.) on Saturday for the 61st running of the Bettenhausen 100, Kyle followed up a strong time trial session with an eighth-place finish in the 100-lap main event.
On the heels of a strong weekend, Steffens jumped up two positions to sixth in the latest USAC Silver Crown National Championship point standings.
