Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Miss. (Aug. 13, 2024) – Derek Hagar earned a podium result during each of the last two weekends.
Three has been the common number throughout three races in August as Hagar has placed third in a heat race two out of three times and third in the feature two out of three times.
“I need to get on up there and win,” he quipped.
A home race on Aug. 3 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., showcased Hagar advancing from sixth to third place in a heat race and from fourth to third place in the main event while driving a McCord Farms 305ci winged sprint car.
“We fought some handling issues early and had some mechanical woes,” he said. “We fought for what we could and made it work to finish third. Marshall (Skinner) won so Mr. McCord had two cars in the top three.”
Hagar tackled an ASCS Hurricane Area Super Sprints doubleheader at Greenville Speedway last weekend. He opened the action on Friday by placing third in a heat race before maneuvering from ninth to sixth place in the A Main.
“I got a couple of cars on the start,” he said. “I lost brakes about halfway through. I kept having to pump them to make the car work because the track was heavy and choppy. We didn’t have the best night, but there’s nights like that.”
The weekend concluded on Saturday with Hagar hustling from fourth to win a heat race. He started on the outside of the front row in the feature and finished third after leading the first nine laps, marking his ninth podium result in the last 11 sprint car starts.
“I was leading and got held up in traffic,” he said. “They were pushing up and I turned to go underneath them. They turned down and I had to get on the brakes so Brad (Bowden) got by me. We had a restart and I tried to slide Brad. I jumped the cushion and got into the wall. That slowed my momentum up and allowed Chase (Howard) to get by me for second.”
Hagar will be off this weekend before racing at Riverside International Speedway on Aug. 24.
