R.J. Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz. has made the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series his own property of late with a streak of four consecutive victories which have extended his point lead to 69 over Charles Davis Jr. going into a June 8 race at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz..
Johnson swept the weekend’s “Salute to Indy” events at Canyon Speedway Park. After winning Saturday’s 30-lapper, he came back to lead all 30 laps of Sunday night’s main event in the Dan Goodman Enterprises/Beal’s Auto Body Sherman/Marcum Ford. Stevie Sussex was second ahead of Shon Deskins, Mike Martin and Josh Hodges. On Friday night Davis was second ahead of Hodges, Martin and Andy Reinbold.
In addition to his five Peoria wins this year, Johnson also won the last outing at Arizona Speedway.
