Wayne City Illinois. (August 3rd, 2024) - The Wayne County Speedway is a cornerstone for micro racing the midwest and when the baddest micro series out there rolled into town, the pit area filled up right along with the grandstands. 22 winged outlaws checked in at the ? mile bullring including Harley Hollan, Matt Morton and local hero Daniel Robinson.
The night started out with Winslow Indiana’s Jaylon Mills laying down a blistering 10.390 to take quick time in qualifying with Daryn Stark & Jake Cheatham right behind him. Qualifying lined up three K1 Racegear Heat Races. Heat Race #1 saw Eric Braundmeier and Billy Lieb on the front row. Eric got a great jump off the bottom and pulled out to an early lead. Braundmeier went on to lead all 10 laps with Stark and Mills to follow. In Heat Race #2 Kylee Griffitts and Brenna Wirth lead the field to green. Wirth used momentum to get around Griffitts going into turns 1 & 2. Meanwhile Dane Sensel who started 3rd patiently picked and chose the right time to make moves around the two leaders and made a 3-1 run to win heat 2. Heat #3 had Devin Feger and Harley Hollan pace the field. Hollan checked out on the field early until Jordan Clary got into 2nd from the 3rd starting spot and started to run him down. Hollan would go on to lead every lap with Clary and Jett Nunley right behind him.
With Hot laps, qualifying, and 3 heat races in the books, it set up a 25 lap thriller around the Wayne County Speedway. Dane Sensel and Harley Hollan led the field to green. Hollan got the early jump and looked to check out leading the first 3 laps. Meanwhile Daryn Stark, who started 4th on the field, had one thing on his mind and that was to get to the front coming from 4th to the lead by lap 4 and never looked back. Jett Nunley, who started 6th, followed in Stark’s tire tracks coming from 6th to 2nd in 7 laps and looked to put pressure on the leader. However, Stark showed he was too strong and smooth for the competition. Stark went on to lead 21 of the 25 laps to capture the $1,000 Round 10 of 16 victory, with Jett Nunley and Dane Sensel rounding out the podium.
Bethalto, Illinois driver Jake Cheatham earned the Driven Performance Midwest Hard Charger Award gaining 13 spots with a 7th place finish from the 20th starting spot.
Next on the schedule, the WFO Micro Series visits the Highland Speedway on September 14th for another $1,000 to win show that promises to be a barn burner. You can catch every lap on the WFO TV Roku app.
