AMARILLO, Texas (August 3, 2024) From USAC Indiana Sprint Week action to the ASCS competition in the Texas panhandle, California's Ricky Lewis made the trek to Amarillo on Saturday night for the G.W. Elkins Southwestern Championship worth every mile; winning $5,000 with the ASCS Elite Non-Wing Series presented by Abilene Powder Coating.
Having to wait out a rain delay, things finally took off with Lewis taking the green from the fourth starting spot in the Coyote Candle Co. No. 74b. Working to second on the opening lap, the chase for the lead was with Josh Hawkins, who held the point for the first four laps before surrendering it to Lewis on Lap 5.
The second time in his career Lewis has won with the series, the win is his 13th overall on the season.
Missouri's Wesley Smith crossed second with Josh Hawkins ending up fourth. R.J. Miller and Paul White made up the top five.
