Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (July 30, 2024) – Dominic Scelzi’s return from a concussion that sidelined him multiple weeks was a success.

Scelzi posted two podiums and three top fives during four races in the Northwest last week, earning him third place in the Northern Speedweek Tour standings.

“I felt like I kept getting better throughout the week,” he said. “We were pretty fast from the get-go. During the main event on Saturday I felt pretty close to being 100 percent.”

The week began last Tuesday at Southern Oregon Speedway in White City, Ore., where Scelzi set quick time during qualifying. He then placed third in both a heat race and the main event.

“We were quick time with a new track record, which was really neat,” he said. “We went from fourth to third in the heat race. Unfortunately, in the main event we had the ignition box fall out of the car. It somehow came loose right when we took the green. It hit the kill switch so I had to go to the work area. We got it back in and drove from last to third.”

The strong rally was followed by another consistent night on Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore.

“We went out dead last and were third quick,” he said. “We won the heat race from fourth so that put us on the pole of the feature. It was slick on the bottom so I was trying my hardest to beat the outside guy into turn one. We had three shots at it and just couldn’t do it. On the last attempt he drove around me and Dominic Gorden hit the bottom to get by us. We were third in turn one and ran there the rest of the race.”

Scelzi ventured to Skagit Speedway on Friday for the opening night of the Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals. He timed in 24th quickest before winning a heat race from fourth and the B Main from the outside of the front row. Scelzi advanced from 21st to 11th in the main event.

“We couldn’t seem to turn any RPMs in qualifying or really the whole night,” he said. “I felt the car felt good and my laps were good, but we just didn’t have the speed we needed. We went 21st to 12th in 10 laps and got a flat left tire. We changed that and restarted at the back and climbed up to 11th.”

The 10 positions advanced marked the second-most spots gained.

The event concluded on Saturday with Scelzi strong from the opening green flag as he hustled from fifth to win a heat race.

“We won the heat race from fifth so that started us 12th,” he said. “They had an issue with the power at the race track and started a little bit later. It kept some grip in the track throughout a lot of the feature. I struggled to move forward the first 20 laps. I was finally able to put a couple of guys away and I’d say around Lap 25 we started to push our way forward. We drove up to fifth and were really close to getting on the podium. I think the way we finished left a good taste in everyone’s mouth.”

Scelzi made a last-lap pass to garner a fifth-place finish. It earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars and marked Scelzi’s 12th top five of the season.

He will take the next couple of weeks off before tackling Kubota High Limit Racing shows on Aug. 15 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.; on Aug. 16 at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif.; and on Aug. 17 at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif.
